American Idol gets the boob award

Well for the first time in a long time I was really involved in American Idol this year. I never missed an episode, no matter where I was in the country. I consider myself skilled in the vocal area and I think I have a good sense of pitch so from the very beginning I became a fan of Danny G. and Adam Lambert. When the top 2 contestants were announced I was totally shocked that Kris made it over Danny. You can't imagine how floored I was when Kris was announced this years American Idol. I thought Adam had it in the bag with the way he made every song choice completely original and his unique style. Although he is different than most men by wearing makeup and painting his nails, he still has one of the best voices and passion for music I have witnessed in a long time. It's funny because I am a strict republication and a Christian but I was Adams biggest fan. Don't get me wrong, I do think Kris has talent. He is an excellent musician and can sing on key but he reminded me too much of singers that are currently popular and even brought back memories of David Cook for me. HOW I LONG FOR SOMETHING NEW! I just liked the new style that Adam brought to the world, or the style he brought back...ROCK! I think the reason Adam lost was not because his voice isn't good enough I just don't think he excited every demographic in America. For example, I doubt my Grandparents would enjoy his rock vibe. That's what he lacked the general "public" appeal. Kris had several characteristics that everyone could grab onto: did nothing controversial, was always nice and had the American boy look. I just feel like what Kris does vocally has been done before and there are many current artists that have the same music style. All I can hope is that Adam's music career isn't over. I think America is ready to bring the rock back and I think Adam is the guy to do it. Keep in eye out for Adam he may be gone for now but he will be back. Don't stop believing!

My Oscar night...

Lately, I have been on a movie marathon. I decided after watching the Golden Globes and Oscars I would rent all the movies that were nominated this year. I just wanted to see if I agreed with the nominations and if I was on the academy panel would I make the same choices or change direction completely. My long list of movies so far includes Slumdog Millionaire, Benjamin Button, the Wrestler, Happy Go Lucky, Changeling, Rachel Getting Married, Tropic Thunder, Milk, Frost/Nixon and Batman. It was an amazing journey of stories and tales. Out of all the movies I watched I felt that Slumdog Millionaire deserved best picture because it was the most original story I have seen in years. It refreshed my faith in films. The movie I felt was a joke for even being nominated with such incredible stories was Tropic Thunder. I thought film companies could have put better use to their money if they had thrown it in trash cans on the street. It just was worthless, I didn't laugh once! I was a little confused about Happy Go Lucky but then again it's a British film so I guess if your American you aren't meant to understand everything....BREWHAHA?? I am really enjoying my time with each of these movies they have each brought something different to my life. For the most part I thought the nominations were all justified but there are a few I would question. Often, I think wrong nominations are given to odd stories with extremely small budgets just because they are so different. All I have to say is different isn't always good. I am still continuing my quest of nominated films and should have Revolutionary Road and the Reader coming soon. I will let you know if I find a movie better than Slumdog. So far I would recommend Slumdog, Frost/Nixon and Batman as my top picks. Rent them today and grab some candy and popcorn while your at it and call it a movie night.
