Twilight the Movie was a Killer

So I got the movie Twilight and the excitement was bursting inside me when I put the DVD into the player to start the movie. As the movie started I instantly picked up from the first scene that this film was going to be extremely different than the beloved books. Throughout the movie I became more and more disappointed as several essential scenes were left out including the blood type scene, the incredibly romantic field scene and several school scenes. The movie made it seem like the characters just fell in love in one day, which is just wrong. In the book it takes weeks and maybe even months for them to even start talking. I know it’s hard to convey this in a film because it might move too slowly but I just could not believe how inaccurate the film was.
Also, the music in the film did not match at all and I found it terribly distracting. It was like every scene was bombarded with horrible music that didn’t set the tone. The only portion of the movie I did feel they got close to being spot on was in the casting of Bella, Edward, Alice, Jacob and Emmett and Dr. Cullen. All the others just didn’t match in my opinion. For example Rosealie was supposed to be the most beautiful vampire anyone has ever seen and to me she looked like someone I would see in a grocery store. Why couldn’t they pick a super model or someone amazing looking to play her? Even Jasper was not up to par on the looks scale. Most of the vampires looked like average people not incredible gods, like they were described in the book. At the end of the movie I just felt ripped off. I also felt sad because my husband never read the books and thought the movie was okay; he had no knowledge of everything that he missed and really only got half the story. In my opinion they could have done better, MUCH BETTER. I heard that the upcoming film is being directed by someone else so maybe the music will be better, the camera angles will not be so odd and more of the story will be included.
I was not pleased with this film and Stephenie Meyer should be enraged. This film was not good at least the Harry Potter films make it exactly like the books, which is how every film based a best seller should be. There is a reason this book was such a hit people! I know I am venting but I would recommend that everyone read the books and just watch the movie as an added visual. Sorry but this film is a flop.

Slumdog Millionaire wins my vote

I know I am going to pigeonhole myself into being the blogger who does movie and book reviews but sometimes those are the only things that lingering in my thoughts. Like the movie I recently saw, Slumdog Millionare the characters lived in my head throughout the week and even months later. I saw this movie with my husband during a morning date and I was not prepared for such a powerful story to hit me so early in the day.
This movie was powerful in the sense that it was about struggles that people encounter in India just to live their everyday life and is filled with an incredible love story. In the film one of the lowest economic class members, a slumdog, gets a chance to compete on the Indian version of who wants to be a millionaire. While he is on the show the character, Jamal, finds he can easily answer most of the questions because all the answers lie in his troubled past. As the film progresses it shows a glimpse of a journey 3 kids had to go on in order to become adults in the worst of times. They encounter several people who take advantage of their youth in disgusting ways and they continually have to fight to keep themselves honest. In the end of all their struggles, all they have left in the world is each other and for some even that doesn’t’ end up being enough. The movie was filled with violence, prostitution and corruption so I would advise teens to not see this film. Even though all the violent struggles in this film I did not feel they were disrespectfully done; I felt they were an honest portrayal of the current state of India. Watching a movie like this really gives you a wake-up-call to what is going on in the world today. I felt compelled to do something for these children who are sold and bought the same way you and I buy items from a grocery store. I really was awakened to issues going on in our world and I think that’s always the sign of a good film. I would highly recommend seeing this movie as it was rightly nominated best picture of the year.
I think it’s time we do something to make this world better and make every child be able to enjoy just being a kid. I am not sure what to do yet but at least I am thinking about it and that’s a start. Being aware of what is occurring is the first step to change.

Twilight review

So I know I am a little later in reviewing the sensation that is “Twilight” but I just jumped on the band wagon a little later than everyone else. First, I should warn you that if you don’t have the time in your life to commit to reading all four books in the “Twilight” series then do NOT start reading the first book; they are extremely addicting.
Several people had recommended I read these books but I didn’t listen until about the eighty-fifth person barked in my ear to read the books. I usually try to avoid the mindless hype of all things classified as “teen sensations” but I had heard too much positive talk about these books from people I admired. So I opened the crisp pages of the first book in the series rolling my eyes expecting the worst from this teen novel. Page after page I became more enthralled in the story of the young girl named Bella who finds herself in a new town, starting a new school and forms an unlikely friendship with a strange local boy. At first I was not 100% attracted to the lead heroine, Bella, because she was clumsy and frankly antisocial, which are not qualities I admire in someone. As I got deeper into the depths of her heart and who she is as a person I realized that her faults are what make her as human as you or me. I discovered that relating to her wasn’t just easy, it was irresistible and she became someone that I wanted to know and wish I could comfort. Before I knew it I was enthralled with the story and I let my body surrender to the thrilling love story that was unfolding before me. Book one was nothing short of amazing and I thought nothing could beat it; then came book two, book three and then four.
As you know I can’t ever give too much away when doing book reviews but these books are each perfect pieces of artwork bound with magic. Every book is complete a new thrilling adventure but also left me wanting more when I was finished. Luckily, I had purchased all the books close together so I was not left waiting for long. There was a lull between book two and book three where the mail didn’t get my story to me as quick as I hoped, so I found myself having sleepless nights and tracking the package online every second. My husband finally thought I was half crazy when I began looking out the windows for the mail lady to arrive, these books are that good! I simply could not get enough of the engaging stories my taste for these books increased with every page I turned and I became hungry to know more, which I supposed was fitting since this is a vampire filled thrill.
In case you have not already guessed I would rate these books as close as a ten that you can get! If you loved the Harry Potter books then these books will fulfill your desire for the supernatural and regain your faith in good writing. By the end of the books I actually felt they were more suited for adults then teens because of the language, violence and intense relationships. I would not recommend letting younger teens read these books. At the end of the stories I gained a new respect for the characters and somewhere inside me I almost wished a family like this existed in our mundane world.
It’s funny every book that I fall for has one thing in common they all include the same theme, “Impenetrable love.” I guess you could say I am a sucker for love but I guess so is everyone else in the world because these books are so popular. I think a part of us relates to characters who are searching for that “one” thing and will fight as hard as they can in order to get it. All of the souls in this world are looking to find their significant other that will make them complete and these books capture a glimpse of two people who are so in love they would give anything just to be with one another…anything!
These books are on the top of my list and I cannot wait to see the movie, although I am sure it will be disappointing after the way the words moved me. I don’t think I need to brag more than I have about these stories I am now one of the thousands of people who are recommending that you read these books. Head my warning- make sure you have enough time to get sucked into one of the most unusually beautiful love stories ever written.
“A life without love is a life not worth living.”
Rating for all four Twilight books is a 10
